Mud Kitchen

This is an activity about making a mud kitchen and using it to learn about measuring, estimating, basic fraction identification, literacy. Making mud pies and imaginary cooking using natural outdoor materials seems to have always been a part of playing outdoors. It’s a great way to engage with the outdoors and get hands on experience by exploring materials, role playing

Nature Alphabet

During outdoor sessions, create letters of the alphabet using found materials. Perhaps a twig is naturally the shape of a letter, or objects are collected and rearranged into the shape of a letter. Allow imaginations to run wild!

Risk Assessment Triangles

A resource to help individuals identify potential hazards and the risks associated with them. Enables individuals to begin taking ownership of their wellbeing and increase awareness of the world around them. Great health and safety discussions at the start of a session.

Skeleton Activity

Explore skeletons in this interactive activity. Look at a variety of different skeletons, talk about the different parts. Talk about what the skeleton does, how would our bodies be if we didn’t have a skeleton? (a floppy mess on the floor). Compare and contrast between different skeletons.

Soil Recipe

Soil is made up of 45% minerals from rocks, 25% water, 25% air, 5% organic matter, along with the action of time, activity of living things and specific climatic conditions. This activity is an interactive, visual and fun way to understand the above. Can be used as a starting point to any session exploring soil or playing in mud kitchens.
