Culag Community Woodland Trust (CCWT) was formed in 1995. It manages Culag Wood (40 ha) under a 50 year lease from Assynt Estates and Highland Council and owns Little Assynt Estate (1200 ha) which it purchased in 2000. CCWT is a membership organisation with charitable status and is run by 12 Directors and a staff of 2, with ongoing support from regular volunteers. The organisation aims to manage its land for the benefits of the local community through improvement to the environment, providing employment and training, enabling improved access to promote well-being, and through encouraging education about the area‘s natural environment. CCWT also established Culag Enterprises Ltd in 2008 to deliver training and employment in land-based skills. To date, a number of trainees have completed a range of vocational qualifications. The team has also secured a range of contracts relating to path building and dry stone walling. Culag Enterprises currently employs 5 members of staff.
