Assynt Foundation was established in advance of the community land buy-out of the Glencanisp and Drumrunie Estates in June 2005, comprising 18,000 ha in the parishes of Assynt and Lochbroom. The aims of the Foundation are to manage community land and associated assets for the benefit of the community and the public in general as an important part of the protection and sustainable development of Scotland’s natural environment. A key objective is to facilitate the creation of employment and business opportunities through the creative and sensitive use of the estates and their assets. The Trust has a current membership of 270 full members and 20 associate members and relies on a management team comprising 9 Directors (drawn from the local community) and 5 full time equivalent members of staff to run the estate.
