Guest blog by Lesley Muir, Chair of Assynt & Coigach Creatives, on the release of their Creative Trail leaflet, funded through our Community Grants Scheme

Assynt & Coigach Creatives (ACC) is an association of local Artists and Makers who have come together to create an attractive, map-based Creative Trail leaflet bringing and guiding visitors around the Coigach & Assynt Living Landscape (CALL) area to exactly where (and when) locally made creative work of all types can be seen and purchased.

The Creative Trail map leaflet is intended to enhance visitor experience in the area – opening eyes to the work of local creative people using local materials: wood, horn, wool etc, local recorded music, work by local writers, ceramics, art, photography, and sculpture which all heavily reference the flora, fauna, landscape and cultural heritage of the CALL area and which all contribute so much to its current cultural flowering. Alerting visitors to the main local markets and art and craft outlets also helps local producers of specialist foods.

The main funding for the Assynt & Coigach Creative Trail initiative was awarded by the Coigach & Assynt Living Landscape Partnership Scheme Community Grant Scheme funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Scottish Natural Heritage and the project was also supported by grants from Coigach Community Development Company and NW Highlands Geopark.

Sue Jack, ACC Treasurer, provided an update on the Assynt and Coigach Creatives Trail Leaflet and associated activities.

“The ACCT leaflet is looking really good and feedback on the proofs has been excellent. It is now with the printers and will be available very soon.”

ACC are now gathering entries for the Assynt and Coigach Creatives ‘Open Studio Days 10-13th September’ to alert visitors and locals to the upcoming events in September. There will be a single page insert to the leaflet explaining which studios are open and when.

ACC is having a meeting on Tuesday 16th July at 6.30pm in the community room of Lochinver Village Hall where they can give further updates on the September Open Studio Days and leaflet.  Membership of Assynt and Coigach Creatives is £8 which this year included an inaugural entry (for all members who wished) in the Creative Trail leaflet. For info about membership (new members always welcome) please contact Chair, Lesley Muir at lesleyemuir@gmail.com or Treasurer, Sue Jack at sue.jack@btinternet.com
