We are looking for the right artist to take up the third of our residencies as part of the Coigach & Assynt Living Landscape Artist in Residence project. The project is led by the Assynt Foundation, and is available for practitioners who work in performance, audio visual or written or fine art practices. There are no limits being placed on the form of the final art work or the chosen artistic medium.

The theme of this residency is red deer, with the aim of reflecting and unpacking the complex relationships between red deer, the land and the people of Coigach and Assynt.

The image of a red deer is one of the most used and arguably abused images associated with Scotland. CALLP and The Assynt Foundation will be able to assist the selected artist to make contact with those involved in land management, deer management and stalking, conservation and wildlife organisations, as well as supporting other research that requires local knowledge.

Previous CALLP Artist in Residence Projects include Julia Cowie who focussed on Clachtoll Broch, and by Alex McKay who composed music responding to the path to Suilven.

If you are interested in finding out more and applying for the residency, you can download the Invitation document: Red Deer Artist in Residence invitation. The deadline for applications is Monday 1 March 2021.
